Windows 7 Hits a New Low - PC World

Source:

Windows 7

I've always wanted to get a modern operating system to work on my graphing calculator. And we're about there, thanks to the efforts of a fellow (or strangly named lady) on The Windows Club forum. A user by the name of 'hackerman1' has installed Windows 7 on his PC, which in itself is nothing to write home about. The catch here is that he's gotten a bootable, working installation on no less than a Pentium II system. No, that's not a typo--Pentium Two. The extreme...ly old machine consists of a 266 MHz CPU, a whopping 96 MB of memory, and a next-generation 4 MB graphics card.

Like a stuntperson who just keeps tempting death by pushing the landing ramp farther and farther back, hackerman1 didn't just stop with that meager system loadout. He continued to alter the memory amount, achieving success with two of three setups: 128 MB and 96 MB. Unfortunately, Windows 7 didn't seem to enjoy only having 64 megabytes of memory to work with, marking hackerman's stopping point with that version of the experiment.

That's not to say that he's planning on stopping for good, however. Next up? A Pentium I machine featuring a 166 MHz CPU paired with a 1 MB graphics card. After that, maybe hackerman1 can break inject some Aero graphics into his trusty abacus. Although he didn't say how long it took him to install or boot the operating system, other forum users have chimed in and timed the installation for a Pentium III-based system at a low 17 continuous hours. And the boot time? 17 minutes.

MSN revamp to include stronger Bing ties

MSN revamp to include stronger Bing ties | Beyond Binary - CNET News: "Microsoft has been testing different search bars to see which ones drive the most traffic to Bing. Shown here is the one that appeared on the MSN site on Friday.
(Credit: CNET)

The planned fall revamp of MSN isn't just about giving the butterfly a fresh coat of paint. Microsoft also hopes to drive more people to its search engine.

The company has been toying with different search box designs to see which ones lead to the most queries. As it stands, the MSN portal already accounts for half of Microsoft's search engine traffic. Comparatively few people typed in queries straight from Microsoft's Live.com address (now Bing.com)

'A big part of my job is figuring out how I pull the Bing experience into MSN in a way that makes sense,' Microsoft vice president Erik Jorgensen said in an interview this week.

One way of banking on MSN, he said, is by posting features on the site that tie in to the company's search engine. The company has talked about ways it can write features that push folks to Microsoft's local, shopping, and travel search engines--each among the most profitable parts of the search business and the areas in which Microsoft has focused.

The software maker is also looking at ways it can tie MSN features to the strongest areas of Bing--local, shopping, and travel search.

To make that work, Microsoft needs to ensure that it is less visually jarring when one moves back and forth between MSN and Bing.

'Frankly, that's one I think we haven't done well,' Jorgensen said. 'I think in the fall that's something we've got to tackle.'

In its first two weeks, Bing has managed to pick up some market share, but the key will be sustaining those gains in the coming weeks and months.

Beyond driving traffic from MSN, Microsoft is also counting on deals with PC makers Hewlett-Packard and Dell to get more people to give Bing a try.

The company has said it wants to pick up at least a couple points of market share in the first year, although it will need well more than that to truly compete economically with Google. Hence the company's never-ending talks with Yahoo, which is No. 2 in the search market with about 20 percent of the business."

Importance of Crawl Depth from SEO Perspective

Importance of Crawl Depth from SEO Perspective
Search engines give result for a searched term on the basis of the ranking given to the sites corresponding to those keywords. This ranking is based on the indexing of websites that the search engine gathers periodically. The indexing is further done through a periodic crawling process done through a program known as a crawler. Thus, a crawler is responsible for the ultimate searched result generated for a certain keyword when searched in a search engine. For anyone engaged in ecommerce or SEO in Australia or anywhere in the world, the search engine crawling factor is of paramount importance.

The frequency and the way of crawling give the search-engine the up-to-date data from a website. Crawlers are used to create copies of the visited pages for indexing and facilitating faster search. To get the right information, the crawlers move deep into the website and check the relevancy of the website with respect to the searched term. The term Crawl Depth quantifies the limit of crawling of a website. Because of the complexity of search and the availability of vast resources over the web, the Crawl depth factor increases very often.

From organic SEO perspectives, it is important to get a site properly and deeply crawled by search engines. A few factors are pivotal in this regard:

Backlinking

Backlinks from reputed and popular directories, social networking sites can help to easily find the site by search engine crawlers. A frequent visit by crawlers will ultimately ensure a better and deeper crawling.

Updated content

The content should be original and updated regularly. Updated content attracts crawlers frequently.

Internal linking

The internal link structure of the website also affects crawlers’ visits. Pages which are heavily linked internally attract crawlers more.

Using a Sitemap

A sitemap helps in getting the site indexed and crawled deeply. The robots.txt file, on the other hand, prevents the crawler from crawling any restricted or unwanted page. In terms of web search engine optimization , proper and correct robots.txt entries ensure a speedy crawling of the website.

AdSense Earning Pays Dollar for UV not for RV - Make Money Online - Earning Cash Online Tips

AdSense Earning Pays Dollar for UV not for RV - Make Money Online - Earning Cash Online Tips: "In the common word, earning money by AdSense is very easy but it is not really very easy. Recently, I got some new things about Google AdSense. Now, for Google AdSense account, there is no way to create by free blogs. For it you have to need original sites with proper hosting under your name. To run AdSense on the domain it is necessary that the domain should be older than 6 months.

Recently, I analyzed my Google AdSense account. There is not much amount which should be there. Many times I have got $0.5 even on 20 clicks. It was lowest money by the AdSense clicks.

I am getting now good visitors on my sites and there are proper optimized AdSense also but clicking money is low. My question was big for me. I tried to solve it. I went through my Google AdSense account and found some good data.

I analyzed that Google pays for those clicks which is clicked by UV. When there was UV by organic visits, my AdSense money was high but those days when there were RV visitors, my AdSense amount was low even on high clicks.

After this analysis I understand that if my sites ranking by high searches keywords have good positions in organic searches then my AdSense earning can be high also.

To get more money by AdSense account you need to optimize your site by targeted keywords. Your sites stuff should be proper, unique and more recent. It is also a good way to earn dollar if you do it in right way."

Duet D888 – a dual SIM handset by National Geographic

"If you happen to pick holiday destinations on the pages of National Geographic, you better make sure you´ve got a cell phone that will serve you well. The Duet D888, introduced by Cellular Abroad and National Geographic looks up to the task indeed. The device utilizes two SIM cards simultaneously, but is, unfortunately, a tri-band GSM (900 / 1800/ 1900 MHz) only, meaning it´s not entirely usable in America.

Cellular Abroad offers the Duet D888 for $199 along with a prepaid National Geographic Travel SIM that provides low rates with 185 countries, free incoming calls in more than 90 and 30 free outgoing minutes in most of them. The SIM card itself is assigned a British number and costs $79 if ordered separately (and not along with the handset). The other slot can be used to plug in a local SIM from the country you are in, so as to get even more cheap minutes.

The National Geographic handset is eqipped with 2.8-inch QVGA screen, 2-megapixel camera, built-in mobile TV receiver, FM radio that requires you to plug in the earphones and 1GB microSD expansion card that comes boxed with the device. Its specs remind us of Chinese-made dual-SIM cell phones. Unlike them, the Duet D888 is FCC approved and comes preloaded with a number of National Geographic ringtones, pictures and videos relating to travels around the world.

Well, where are you next leaving for?"

Beautifully Poetic Photo Angel Tears

Music and Lyrics by Eric Clapton

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
cause I know I dont belong here in heaven...

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?
Ill find my way through night and day
cause I know I just cant stay here in heaven...

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please...begging please

Beyond the door theres peace Im sure
And I know therell be no more tears in heaven...

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
cause I know I dont belong here in heaven..."

Yahoo! 360 Failed and is Closing Next Month!

Written by Suresh Khanal
Tuesday, 02 June 2009 10:43

http://247wallst.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/yahoo_logo1.jpgYahoo! is shutting its unloved social networking site, Yahoo! 360, next month.

The closure follows the shuttering of services Y! 360 aimed at college graduates and Mash, two other networking efforts opened in 2007 and then quietly closed. Yahoo! believes its family of services already provides social networking functions, but the company has singularly failed to deal with the success of the likes of Facebook.

An update page on the site, said: "Today, we’re able to firmly say that on July 13, 2009 Yahoo! 360° will be closing down and you’ll be asked to move into your new profile on Yahoo!, by July 12, 2009." This means that users will need to get cracking moving blog and other content across.

Yahoo said it will help users to either move their content to another blogging service or to Yahoo!'s profile. Yahoo! wants to use members' user profiles as the basis for social networking type services across its various sites.

The blog also asks the obvious question: "First you shut down Mash, now you shut down 360 — why should I give profiles a shot?". We're told Yahoo! is listening to these worries.

Yahoo!'s profiles don't currently have all the functions of 360, but will get improved over time.

Yahoo says "

While we know many of you are frustrated by this decision, we’d like to address some of the main questions you might have. If your question has not been addressed, please see our Help pages and list of frequently asked questions for more information. If you’d like to discuss this change, or, ask a question that was not addressed in the help pages or in the content below, please visit the Profiles News Blog at: http://www.yprofileblog.comhttp://www.yprofileblog.com. Though, I can’t promise to answer every question, I can promise to create additional posts on common issues and trends to make sure “hot topics” are addressed.

Why is Yahoo! 360 closing?

Though 360 gained a strong core of loyal users (you) who enjoyed the service, Yahoo! has been reprioritizing some products to help us deliver the best possible experiences to consumers. The decision to close Yahoo! 360 and transition users to profiles is part of this larger strategy, but we had been waiting until we had an alternative solution that we could offer to our community of Yahoo! 360 users until we officially shut down 360.

It’s been almost two years since you first announced 360 was closing—why shut it down now?

Before we could retire 360, we had to find a sustainable and adequate solution for your personal information. We know how important your blog entries and profile information is to each of you, and we wanted to be able to maintain the integrity of this content. Rather than rushing the process and risking data loss, we worked on a broader solution across Yahoo! that would meet our future goal of providing you the best possible social experience while at the same time protecting your privacy and data. We’re happy to say that we now have a solution that satisfies all of these requirements.

What is going to happen to my blog?

We know that many of you decided to blog in 360 because you enjoyed sharing your content with the people you met on Yahoo!, which is why we’ve created two options for your blog and all of its content.

The first is: you can start blogging on your profile on Yahoo!—we’ve created an all new blogging tool that will let you post content and also allows you to integrate photos right from Flickr. Once you create an entry, your post is automatically pushed out in your updates stream to your connections, saving you the hassle of sending out links to your latest entries.

A second option that we’re providing you is the ability to export your blog and all of your content and to any of the supported blogging systems (don’t worry—they’re popular sites like WordPress, Blogger, and MoveableType). We’ll even generate an archive with all of your entries and photos and will send you a link to download the archive. To get started with this option, please follow this link: http://download.360.yahoo.com/http://download.360.yahoo.com/

http://z.about.com/d/personalweb/1/0/A/H/yahoo360.jpg

First you shut down Mash, now you shut down 360—why should I give profiles a shot?

We understand you might have doubts—in the past few years, you’ve seen a couple of social sites come and go, and it means a lot to us that you’ve stuck around while we’ve tweaked each experience. Know that we’re committed to having a universal profile across Yahoo!, and we’re committed to working with you to improve and evolve this profile to make sure it’s what YOU want to use. That doesn’t mean we can implement every piece of feedback you provide, but it does mean we’re listening, and we are going to do our best to make sure your interests are incorporated into future releases and versions of your profile.

What about customization and photos? On 360 I can change the look and feel and upload multiple photos—can I do this with profiles?

At this time, your new profile does not have all the features and functionality of your 360 profile. However, we are looking at incorporating new ways of expressing yourself through your profile.

In regards to uploading multiple photos, your profile on Yahoo! allows for only one primary photo for now. This is also something we’re looking at improving/expanding based on your feedback.

We know that you will have lots of questions about 360 closing and how it will affect each of you. Be sure to check out the Customer Care help pages (including the FAQ’s) (including the FAQ’s) to help make this transition as smooth as possible."

Bloggers and Webmaster's Grumble on bing PR

It appeared utmost surprise to me when I learnt that bing.com has already obtained Google PageRank 2 on the second day of its launch. How could it be? It is almost impossible to be indexed in this short span of time!

Web Page URL: http://www.bing.com
The Page Rank:
2/10
(the page rank value is 2 from 10 possible points)

You can check on your google toolbar when you open bing.com.

The question here is not whether bing.com worth PR 2 or not. The question is can google adapt two different criteria for different domain names? What are the criteria based on that google awarded bing.com a PR 2 in two days of its launch, Google must clarify. There has spread a great disappointment among bloggers and site owners who struggled hard to improve on PR. Since PR directly effects the SERP its always valued by webmasters.

Microsoft launched new search engine bing.com on 28th, After that Google didn't update PR, is google specially update any particular site for PR? It had PR 0 on 28th and 2 on 2nd June!

Windows 7 is to be released on October 22!

Windows 7

Microsoft confirmed on Tuesday that it is planning for Windows 7 to release on October 22 as opposed to the general assumption of January of 2010.

To reach that milestone, Microsoft plans to wrap up development of the operating system by the middle or end of next month, Senior Vice President Bill Veghte said in an interview. The release dates were first unveiled by Ina Fried, and later confirmed by Ed Bott. This probably makes it the first Windows version to be released ahead of schedule, putting an end (for now) to the various jokes about new Windows versions always being released behind schedule. Fun fact: Windows 7 will be released almost exactly 8 years after Windows XP, which was released October 25, 2001.

Microsoft has said that Windows 7 will come in five different editions in most markets--Starter, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate. A "Windows 7 Basic" will also be sold in emerging markets, Microsoft said.

Details on the Windows Upgrade Option were not immediately available, but analysts have assumed that it would resemble Vista Express Upgrade, a program that gave people who purchased Windows XP PCs between Oct. 26, 2006, and March 15, 2007, free or inexpensive upgrades to Vista.

Vendors were allowed to set the price, if any, of the XP-to-Vista upgrades, and it's believed that they will have the same flexibility for Windows 7
